For many South African’s that are not able to work at the moment days seem to blend into one another and I notice many people are commenting they have no idea what day of the week it is. I’m however working full time from home through this pandemic, so weekends still feel like weekends to me complete with that Fri-YAY feeling.
I love Fridays as they mark the beginning of the weekend are always filled with excitement as I plan out all the stuff I want to do on Saturday and Sunday.
This Friday was a biggie and kind of unexpected. One of our neighbors messaged late in the afternoon and asked if we wanted to meet for drinks on the Pavement. It was a super arrangement actually: we all brought a chair out of our homes, placed them on our pavement and enjoyed a drink together apart. I think there were a few people who thought it was a bad idea in our street, but in our neighborhood the houses are at least 3m apart so although we were a bit loud having to speak from a distance, we were still more than 2m away from one another.
I felt like a total rebel though as so many people are taking to social media to berate people who “take such chances”. I really don’t see the harm – if we are allowed to go to the shops and stand 1m apart from others then why not sit on the pavement and chat a min of 3m apart from one another.
I guess everyone is processing this in their own way and if the neighbors who disapproved had chosen to report us they could have… but snitches are a topic for a whole different post.
