In September last year hubby and I planned a mini escape for the weekend to the small town of Clanwilliam smack bang in the middle of rooibos tea country of the Western Cape to enjoy wildflower season. The idea was to drive up from Cape Town, via a few of our favorite small west coast towns, while enjoying the wild flowers that line the roads during the springtime. As luck would have it when we left it was raining, so the drive up via Darling to the accommodation we had booked was pretty sparse as far as wildflower viewing goes…. we really only got to see canola fields because the beautiful wildflowers need sun to open and show their faces to passers by….
I recently went down to Stellenbosh (Cape Town) on business for two weeks and I had the good fortune of enjoying a few delicious cups of morning sunshine (a.k.a coffee) while I was in this quaint little town. Aside from the amazing wine produced in the area I was actually quite surprised at just how seriously the good folk of Stellenbosh take their coffee! Given the early mornings I had to get through to work on time, I had quite a few opportunities to taste test at the various coffee houses in town and this list of my five top picks from this trip. There were many more quaint little spots I found but I ran out of time to visit them all so I have a feeling this may be one of several reviews of coffee spots in Stellies….
